Born the day a saint died

I just found out I was born the same day (month, day, and year) that a particular saint died. I know this is wierd, but it made me wonder if there is any special connection to this saint. Has anyone heard of anything along those lines?

Generally the day a saint died becomes their feast day. We often pick a patron saint who we can pattern our lives after when we are confirmed. Sometimes a saint was selected for us to be named after. And sometimes a saint picks us.👍 or is picked for us by God. Maybe that’s what happened in your case.

In some cultures people are named after the saint with whom they share their feast day, thus, their name and birthdate have extra significance. In these same cultures names are very important because of this and meeting up with someone who shares the same name with you is a significant event because you not only share the same name but the same birthday and the same patron saint. They acknowledge a spiritual significance. I know in the Mexican culture there is even a special word for those who share the same name - Tocayo (sp?).

If you share the same birthdate I would recommend reading up on that saint, and maybe asking him/her for special intercessory prayer. If this is someone with who you feel a special affinity towards and haven’t been confirmed you may consider also selecting them as your Confirmation saint.

All the time. Most Saint’s days are the days they died. Well, I was born 4 October 1944, Feast Day of St. Francis of Assissi. Glad to have him on board as one of my patron saints. And perhaps that is why I am a good cat-daddy.

Seems almost half of them were hermits or in seclusion. :hmmm:
 
Thank you for the replies. The saint I was talking about is Padre Pio. He died Sept. 23, 1968 - the same ***year ***that I was born.

Perhaps you are called to seek his intercession? He was known to love America. You should learn more about him, and see if something about his life calls out to you. 🙂

If a person is born on a specific day that happens to be the feast day of a saint, and they are named after that saint - chances are very good, that date was when the saint died.
There is an old tradition that celebrates the death of a Saint and not the birth because death is the beginning of the new life with God.
So don’t feel like the lone stranger 🙂 - you’re in good company.

I have had a similar experience. Although she is not yet a saint (her Cause is just being opened in Rome)… I found out that Sister Lucia Dos Santos (the eldest of the Fatima visionaries) died on my birthday, in 2005. Since hearing this… I have developed a special place for her, in my heart. I ask her to pray for me frequently… because we now share a “birthday”. Mine, into earthly life… and hers, into Eternal Life.

I think it is a wonderful thing, to express a devotion (kind of like a unique friendship) to a particular saint who has passed to God on your birthday. Because you are bonded together, in a special way.:heaven:

So is mine. August 29. But what is weird is that my brother was born on June 24, the Nativity of John the Baptist. There is only the two of us, and we each have a connection to him!

Haha. Carolyn, Michael Jackson also shares a birthday with us…

That’s really neat that your brother and you have John the Baptist for a family patron.
