Borrowing from christian tradition for fiction

I’m a fantasy writer and I want to borrow from…well, in this case it’s Jewish Kabbalism, but it’s the same God, right? Anyway, I’m wondering if it’s okay to borrow from that mysticism/tradition to create a system of magic for stories if I don’t acknowledge it in my stories.

which is it Christian or Jewish mysticism you want to borrow from? no they are not the same. You are writing fiction, write what you want, just don’t do a Dan Brown and claim it is fact. And do your research.

Oh, I’m not borrowing directly. That’s kind of why I’m worried - I don’t want not to give credit where it’s due.

Kabbalah is Jewish mysticism. It’s not Christian. Unless you understand what it is, you shouldn’t write about it. You also need to be careful about using magic in your fiction. I know some people react strongly to any magic, even in fiction, but speaking as a professional editor and a Catholic, it is necessary to present your ideas in ways that will not negatively affect your readers.
