In today’s Boston Sunday Globe, an advertising supplement is included called *Diversity Boston. *Most of the articles are on ethnic minorities and their struggles and successes in the state of Massachusetts - of course, this is not objectionable. However, the final article entitled “Gay Marriage attracts great workers” profiles a lesbian couple that came to this state from Oklahoma to get married. The article is structured like an interview of the two “spouses” and presents a picture of Massachusetts as the promised land to gay couples. The word “fled” is used several times by the women to describe their exodus from Oklahoma, which the article says is the most gay un-friendly state in the nation. At one point one of the woman says, “We never hid the fact that we are a couple. Yet, life in Oklahoma was hard for us. I felt very guarded. We want our children to regard us as a normal family. Emma (her daughter) very proudly says that she has two mommies. I love that.” One of the woman ends the interview by saying, “It is hard to explain to people who have never experienced such a life, but it is wonderful to feel free.” These types of articles are included all the time in this newspaper. Welcome to the promised land of Massachusetts, where being gay is considered normal!
