And I prefer orthodox with a small “o”, but that doesn’t mean that Orthodox people would see me as anything other than a Roman Catholic. Unfortunately for everybody who is uncomfortable with such things, if you aren’t Orthodox, and you aren’t Catholic in union with Rome, then there isn’t much else we can call you that will make sense in mixed company.

I am, in general, shocked, at how little Catholics often know of their own faith, let alone the faith of others. When I ask most of my Catholic friends about their faith the #1 answer I get to the question: “Why are you Catholic?” Is “because I was raised that way.” Thankfully, I know a priest at the local Catholic School who actually encourages students to explore and learn about other faiths. I encourage others to do so, often as it promotes a higher level of understanding.

That is an interesting article. I hate being called Protestant though! It’s okay I guess. I prefer catholic with a lowercase “c”. There are ‘Protestants’ that can’t even confess the Creeds honestly. It’s sad to get lumped together with modalists like the ‘oneness pentecostals’, but I suppose human beings enjoy order and organization.

What is this lower case “c” ****? It is one, ONE Catholic only. Do we say lower case “p” and capital P in Protestanism?

‘catholic’ is used to refer to the wholeness of Christian doctrine; the ancient faith (Apostles, Athanasian, and Nicene creeds, Baptism / Lord’s Supper, etc.).

‘Catholic’ is used to refer to Rome specifically.

I can understand your confusion, though, because for you the terms would be interchangeable.

Yes it can be quite a shock how people will not take the time to learn a faith that they profess. Or,if it’s not due to not taking the time to learn it, they decide not to accept certain teachings that their faith teaches. This can be said for Protestants as much as Catholics though to.

I see nothing wrong with encouraging the study of other faiths. There are however quite a bit of other faiths out there. And I am not just referring to the different Protestant denominations either. Anyways, this study of other faiths is the reasoning behind this very forum on Catholic Answers (Non-Catholic Religions).
