This is for anyone to participate!! There are quite a few of us mommies-and-daddies-to-be on this lovely CA Forum. I was thinking it would be fun to have everyone share their wives tales, no fail tests, tricks, or traditions on predicting a baby’s gender. Mind you - this does not include the obvious method of an ultrasound!! We all know that pretty much sums it up (even though it can be wrong!). So please share your tips and stories. I for one would love to hear. Cant wait to meet mine and find out what he/she is!!

How cute!

I’ve been sent a number of sites describing old wives tales and even this Chinese calendar thing that supposedly predicts it based on your age and month of conception.

All the old wives tales point to a little girl, including the calendar, and my doctor’s nurse practitioner swears that the heart rate continues to predict a girl.

I have an ultrasound on November 21st and that will tell for sure. I’ll definitely get a good laugh if we have a little boy! 🙂 Of course, we’ll be happy either way. My hubby was saying how he wishes we were having boy/girl twins so as to have one of each already. 🙂

I can’t wait to find out if we have a little Sophia Annabella or a John Paul Christopher. So fun!

If you crave acidic foods (lemons, tomato sauce, etc) then it is a girl, and if you crave protein it is a boy.

If you are cranky it is a girl, and a boy if you are pleasant as pie.

If you are having lots of acid reflux then they baby with have lots of hair.

If you gain only in the front, you can only tell you are prego by turning sideways, it is a boy. If you gain all over, it is a girl.

If I think of any more, I will let you know 😃

I haven’t even heard of those.

Mine were more about the color of, um, your urine…sweets vs. salt cravings…garlic or no garlic…morning sickness vs. no morning sickness…if your body hair grows faster or not… if you have “pregnancy face” (meaning water in the cheeks or chin), etc…etc. 🙂

Baby’s heart rate over 150 = girl
Baby’s heart rate around 130 = boy

somewhere in the middle… could go either way.

If you got preganant before ovulation = girl
at or after ovulation = boy

I’ve heard that girl’s steal their mother’s beauty during preganacy so if you’re looking a bit haggard & unattractive you’ve having a girl.

If everyone says you’ve never looked better, you’re having a boy.

My instincts tell me I am having a boy. And the silly little gender predictor tests tell me boy too.

Supposedly if you take a necklace chain with a pendant (I used my cross and St.'s medallions) and hold it over your belly it should indicate the sex by the way it moves. If it swings around in a circle that means girl. If it goes back and forth that is a boy. Mine goes back and forth. Very fast. Very Wide Back and Forth!! Ha ha ha. Perhaps my little peanut is my “Charles Benjamin” waiting to meet mommy and daddy! 😃

Similar to the ring over the tummy, suspend your wedding band on a thread/string, hold it still over your right wrist (upturned on the table) – if it swings from finger to elbow, it’s a boy and if it’s across the wrist side to side, it’s a girl…worked for me last time, you’re supposed to be able to do “all” your kids that way (i.e starting with the first kid, and “telling” all your other kids in chrono order…)

LOL…

Back in the olden days, before ultra sounds, we predicted by the heart rate and how high you were carrying.
Every prediction for mine was wrong.
I had the opposite sex child from all the predictions.
#1 everyone said girl - had a boy
#2 I wanted another boy - had a girl (yay!)
#3 Even the doctor said girl. I went to the hospital with only a girl’s name. - had a boy.

God bless all you future Mommies!!!

I’m much closer to being Grandpa than Daddy!

That’s the same thing MY dear husband said when we found out we were expecting this time! 😉

I though of another one,

Find someone who was prego while you are prego, ie, the baby is very young and you are very big. If you are holding their baby boy and he starts to cry, it is another boy. If he is fine, then it is a girl. The explanation was they do not like to compete against someone of the same sex. This actually did predict by first, but I thought it was silly.

Hey did your hubbies come down with a slight case of flu when you were newly prego? My unacurate stats are more than half have gotten sick right before the mommies found out they were prego.

Are you drawn to a certain color? I actually though I looked better in pale blue when I was prego with my son and pink became the in color when I was prego with my daughter.

Enjoy this time ladies! I never peeked at the sex, we had a lot of green and yellow newborn clothes. And the heart rates were totally backwards until two months before delivery.

One more trick I remember, when I could not remember or had not felt the baby kick in awhile, I would drink a large glass of milk. Within about an hour the baby would be moving around.

Way back in the pre-ultrasound dark ages, the predictor was the rate of the baby’s heartbeat. I didn’t know this until labor, the rate predicted a boy, and that was correct.

When my mother was painting the bedroom, my grandma warned her that the fumes would induce premature labor. She was right, I was born six weeks premature, and hadn’t turned yet. My poor mother! :o

I’ve heard that a mother’s dreams are a pretty accurate prediction.

While pregnant with my first, I had a very vivid dream in which I saw myself standing in front of our dresser mirror with a baby in my arms. The baby was a boy, about 9 months old, with very expressive eyebrows. That was my first son.

When I was pregnant with my third, I dreamed that my mother, who had passed away the previous year came to me while I was in church and handed me a baby girl named Aggie. Soon after my daughter was born, I realized that her initials (which are the same as my mom’s) are A.G. Thank goodness she didn’t get stuck with the nickname Aggie! She’s more of a Lulu.

If it’s not your first, ask the baby’s older sibling. They seem to know these things.

I’ve found the most reliable way to determine the baby’s gender is… to wait until birth LOL 😛 okay, I crack myself up, sorry! Congrats to all you parents to be!

I’ve heard if the father gains weight, it’s a girl, and if he doesn’t, it’s a boy.

So far most of the wives tales say I’m having a girl, but the way I’m carrying, low and in the front, says it’s a boy. My hubby’s gained weight and baby’s heart rate is always above 150 (shouldn’t it always be above 150, though, until very late in pregnancy). I haven’t really had too many cravings except for sweets. The chinese thing says it’s a girl, too.

:rotfl: (you cracked me up too.) That’s how we use to find out!

also, I have heard the wedding ring on a string version only it was a button on a string, and I also heard that if it was a girl you could tell from the way your sides stuck out from behind, if it was a boy, you didn’t look pregnant viewed from behind. (it was true for me)
