Perhaps this should belong in the prayer section, but a five year old boy–severe autism and non-verbal–close to where I grew up (I pass by the town on the way to my parent’s house) eloped from his aunt’s house during a New Year’s Eve party in 32 degree weather (no coat or shoes) and was found dead in a local canal.
This story and a couple of similar ones (where thankfully the child was found) broke my heart last night. When my son was younger–I would say three or four–he would spontaneously run outside despite having all the window and doors closed. He’s a tall child, so we had to find all kind if ways to keep him from reaching areas we thought were secure.
If you run by this story, please don’t judge the family. They did the best they could. I have walked in their shoes and had my moment of extreme panic. Also, if you can say a prayer for them, I would appreciate it.
God bless.
