If you’re upset by the news I have to share today, turn that energy to good by taking one of these opportunities to get more involved in the fight for life.

Dominick’s Puts Up Fence in the Middle of the Night

Late last night I got a call from a prayer warrior that a high chain-link fence was being erected around the vacant lot across from the entrance to Planned Parenthood.

The fence completely blocks the spot from which we have been reaching out to Planned Parenthood clients.

Planned Parenthood has been griping about our presence in that lot ever since they opened. They launched a telephone campaign, calling on Dominick’s to throw us off that lot.

I had been in touch with several officials from Dominick’s explaining that we just wanted to be left alone there to reach out to women in crisis.

Last night, Dominick’s caved to Planned Parenthood. That’s the story in a nutshell. If you want more information (and picture), check out my blog post:

fvfapp.org/blog/2007/1012/fence/

So what are we going to do about it?

I want to ask you to do TWO things:
  1. Go check it out. Drive by – today if you can – and take a look for yourself at the fence and the No Trespassing signs.
  2. Decide whether you can keep shopping at Dominick’s or not.
I don’t know you you feel, Peter, but as for me, I won’t shop at Dominick’s until the fence and signs come down.

In fact, I’m going to take my Dominick’s Fresh Card and hand it back at the customer service counter with a note explaining that as long as that fence is up, I won’t be shopping there.

If you decide to do the same, let me know.
  1. Call Dominick’s and parent company Safeway and tell them
what you think about their action (numbers below)
I urge you to call Dominick’s and their parent company Safeway to express your disappointment with them for giving in to pressure from Planned Parenthood and putting up that fence.

Here are the numbers to call:

Victor Carlson
General Manager
Dominick’s Store
630-236-0683

Winona Redmon
Public Affairs
Dominick’s Corp
630-891-3000 x5157

Brian Dowling
Public Affairs VP
Safeway Corp
925-467-3000

Now, I don’t dispute that Safeway/Dominick’s has the RIGHT to put up that fence, but I sure wish they wouldn’t have.

But in a way, I find that fence encouraging. It shows how effective our whole campaign has been. Look how far the devil will go just to hassle us. He really hates what we’re doing here in Aurora.

So I urge you to recommit yourself to this mission and decide to participate in some of the upcoming events I mentioned above, all listed here:

fvfapp.org/act.php#events

We face many foes in this battle, but we have the ONE FRIEND that counts: JESUS CHRIST. In his name we carry on, fearing no evil.

Eric, I am not sure this is a good reason for a boycott. Dominick’s is free to do whatever they want with their property. Protesters do not have a right to occupy Dominick’s land.

Perhaps a better solution is to be proactive - maintain contact and good relations with property owners in future protests. Do favors for them such as cleaning up the grounds or find out if they want public appreciation for tolerating your presence.

I am thinking honey is better than vinegar. Surely other property owners (possible sites for future protests) will watching and judging your actions - why not win them over to your side?

New numbers for calling Dominick’s about the fence

Now, here’s an opportunity to put the above principles into action. I’ve got some new numbers for Dominick’s, if you want to call to express your feelings about the new fence:

Dominick’s Corporate Office
630-891-5000
(Hit “1” for public affairs.)

Dominick’s Customer Comments
877-723-3929
(Hit “0” to get to the comments operator.)

By the way, I talked to Victor Carlson today, the manager of the Dominick’s on New York Street. He’s a good guy and this has really been rough on him.

I’m still not going to spend a nickel at his store, thanks to the corporate guys putting up that fence, but if you talk to him, I’d ask you to be especially considerate of the difficult spot he’s in.

Yours for Life,

– Eric

I can’t think why Safeway would want to keep a mob of protesters off its property. Nope, not at all. No reason they’d want actual paying customers to be able to come in without having to dodge a bunch of people waving blown-up pictures of fetuses, aborted or not, chanting and praying. No reason they’d want to actually attract business instead of letting protesters run rampant across the lot.

By the way, were you spending money there in the first place, beyond maybe a buck or two for a drink when your throat got sore? It’s a place of business, and all you’re doing by protesting in their parking lot is scaring away customers, who might even agree with you but be put off by your behavior.

I think you may be stretching things a bit.

It appears to be just what the OP stated, an abandoned lot. Not, as you stated, the parking lot, where customers may have to “dodge a bunch of people waving blown-up pictures of fetuses, aborted or not, chanting and praying”. (Nice of you to falsely paint a picture though:mad: )

If you took the time to look at the link rather than break out your sarcasm you may have seen the pictures.😉

That said, the company still has the right to do as it see fit with its property.

So does the OP with his money.

Actually, what I get from the OP is that the OP is repeating something from someone else’s blog, not that s/he is someone who was actually involved in activities at the site mentioned or necessarily has any firsthand knowledge of the situation at all. It actually looks to be a repost of someone else’s blog which is based on a phone call this person received from yet another party. As to the pictures, hard to tell what this area is like in relation to the store as such things can be very dependent on camera angles.

The other blogs linked and responses to them mention that the clinic is “across the street from the entrance to the store,” that this store has had to put up “parking for customers only” signs, that there were numerous complaints to the store about the actions of the protestors, etc. There are usually many sides to a story.

Just because someone yells loudly is not the best indication that one should jump onto the bandwagon without doing one’s best to verify the information and look at as much of the overall circumstances as possible. Rarely in these situations is any side either as totally evil or pure as the driven snow as those calling for immediate actions might like you to believe. Everyone should do their own research.

I have no way of knowing if the OP is the blogger or not. Your feeling may be right or wrong.

When depending on links to ‘other blogs and responses’ please note your advice in the last line below.

Agreed, which is why I noted that both the company and boycotters should act as they feel appropriate.

My reason for posting was due to the fact one poster here seemed to paint the protestors as a crazed mob waving around posters of aborted fetuses. That was an unfair picture to paint.

I already Boycott Safeway/Dominick’s Food Chains Until They Take Down Their Prices! And also Get Better Produce!

The owners of the lot have the right to fence it off and prohibit trespassers if they want to.

If the trespassers want to use the lot, they should put up their money and buy it.

Buying the lot is the best approach.
Now there’s an idea!

How cool would it be if there were a pro-life counseling facility across the street from every abortion mill or Planned Parenthood office? Just like McDonald’s and Burger King, Walgreens and CVS, Shell and Mobil, Target and Wal-Mart!

Now THAT is using the free enterprise sytem to its fullest!

Makes me wish I was in real estate…

Peace,
Dante

Better yet, how about a perpetual adoration chapel. That might do more good than protest, anyway.

Until then, it is their property and their decision. If a gay rights advocacy group was protesting across the lot from a Catholic Church, I would sure want the owner to run them off.

That is what the Arkansas pro-life group did in Little Rock, Arkansas. They bought the property next door to an abortion mill a decade or so ago, built thier headquarters there and guess what?

🙂 That particular abortion mill is now a vacant building.🙂
