Boycotting Pro-Choice Artists?

Should we boycott an artist’s music if they’re pro-choice. RockForLife.org has a list of pro-choice bands. I don’t think is matters as long as the music is good and clean and the money isn’t directly contributing to plannedparenthood or anything but I’m open for correction.

There’s no reason to boycott someone’s product just because of their personal beliefs. If they were using some of their profit to evil ends, then a boycott is called for.

Why would a band even release an opinon on matters like that? It’s not related to their product. It just doesn’t make good business sense.

Could the same not be said about other moral issues then?

So long as they aren’t promoting this sort of thing, including in their lyrics, then I don’t see the problem. And so long as the proceeds from their sales aren’t going to Planned Parenthood as you said.

I can, however, see the boycotting of such bands like Deicide who’s lyrics are all anti-Christian.

Thing is, many, if not most, of the bands on Rock for Life are supporting abortion by funding and encouraging either abortion itself or pro-abortion campaigns. Just because it’s not Planned Parenthood that they are directly funding, does that make funding them any more right?

As I have said time and time again I don’t join in these boycotts. I won’t boycott Starbucks because I like the coffee. I won’t boycott Walmart because it fits my budget. If I like the artist I buy their music. I don’t check to see which list they are on.

You’re thinking of Rock for Choice. Rock for Life is a pro-life organization.

I hear ya, Jim! Me too. As for the list…funny thing is…everytime I ask someone for a list that is sanctioned by the Vatican…the boards go silent.

“Boycotting” suggests an organized activity. This would be a secondary boycott, so no, I wouldn’t support a “boycott” of musicians who are actively pro-abortion. But personally, I exercise my “personal right to choose” not to buy CDs from artists such as Pearl Jam who publicly promote the pro-abortion cause.

It is list of places, like restaurants, movies, music, stores, all kinds of things that should be boycotted, because of a “supposed” link to Planned Parenthood. If you go to the Trad Threads, I’m sure someone will give you a list of no-no’s.:tsktsk:

Yes Starbucks is one…Wal Mart…Disney of course…some cruise lines, the Susan Comen foundation…Harry Potter books…there was a new one recently that popped up…I can’t remember it, because they are all …well…silly…:hypno:

Every once in awhile, someone will innocently (or not innocently) start a thread like,“should I boycott…such and so”…or “is it a sin to…”

And the feeding frenzy begins…(listen for Jaws theme in your head…and start looking for handbasket…it’s going to be a bumpy night)

Ah. Well, considering that the Vatican no longer maintains a list of forbidden books, I would be surprized to learn that it maintained a list of unethical companies.

My point exactly. There is no list…it doesn’t exist. But there are some CAF who seem fixated on telling everyone what they should boycott…who to buy from or not…don’t patronize this restaurant or that cruise line…don’t buy this kind of car from this auto maker…and the like. It’s all over CAF…I keep saying…“hey we may as well live in caves”

I just shake my head at the insanity…

Same here. Except I choose to live independently and in the sunshine instead of in the cave. God will not condemn me for who I do business with as long as I am not directly supporting abortion which none of these things are doing. They are all so indirect it is hard to find the connection. Usually the companies just have a matching contribution plan and do not outright support any cause. But some make it look like they do. Apparently the only employee contributions that can be matched by a corporation are those we agree with.

If you would not like to help any business organization in an event they are involved in just don’t associate with said business. So if you don’t want to by default support the cause… just don’t buy the music…

That said if you think about global economics, no matter what you do your funds eventually support everything by default…
