Hi everyone- I hope some of you can help us out here with a kinda silly question compared to so many others. Here we go, can you eat braunschweiger (pork livers) with crackers on fridays in Lent? Also are pork rinds considered off limits on Fridays? Thanks for the help. My husband loves this stuff and we were just wondering. Again thank you to all who will answer. Have a blessed Lent! 🙂

Pork is still considered meat, so no, you can’t eat the pork livers. Pork rinds I’m not 100% sure not knowing the exact composition thereof, although I certainly would err on the side of caution. Heck, I don’t even eat bean with bacon soup on a Friday although from what I understand broths and gravies are okay. We’re talking only 7 Fridays --that is 7 days–out of the whole year (6 if one of the Fridays happens to be the Solemnity of St. Joseph or the Feast of the Annunciation) that are mandated in the U.S. specifically for meat abstinence; that leaves 45-46 Fridays to enjoy those tasty treats otherwise if one’s encouraged penitential action is something other than abstinence.

No meat or meat products are allowed (I do not see who would want to eat *that *anyway…eww!)

The fact that your husband loves this stuff will make his Friday sacrifice of it even more valuable in the sight of God.

A blessed Lent to you, too.

Betsy
