This sounds stupid coming from someone expecting their third child, but what do these contractions feel like? I did not have them (that I noticed) with the first two. But with this one I seem to be huge (my previous 9-mnth size starting at 4-5 mnths) and I periodically feel this tightening across the bottom of my much protruded belly. It just tightens up for a while, the relaxes again. Is that what these BH things are like?

It’s not stupid, every prenancy is different:yup: . It does sound like Braxton-hicks but if they get to regular (ex. 10 min apart) or pain gets worse call Doctor your ASPA. He/she can hook up a fetal moniter and know for sure. Best of luck to you and your Family:blessyou:

I agree, that’s what they sound like. I had horrific BH for the last 6 weeks of my pregnancy. And they were a little scary because they came often and regular (6-10 per hour).

I remember them taking my breath away- not from pain, but just because their strength seemed to squash all the air out of my diaphram and lungs.

Like doing a situp without the crunch.

You might call the doc just to let them know you’re having them (so they can chart it)- even though they will probably tell you not to worry. 🙂

They don’t hurt at all, but I can actually feel them, which is new for me. I remember w/the first one the doc kept asking at every appointment that got closer to delivery time if I felt any, and I’d always say no. Then he started examining me, and his head popped up with a surprised look on his face and he said, “Do you realize you are having one right now?” Duh, nope, don’t really feel a thing.
Call your doctor if they are accompanied by lower back pain,
I thought pregnant women always had back pain! Who can carry all this extra weight up front and not have back pain? Seriously, thanks for the warning. They are very infrequent, so I was 95% sure that was what they were, but you know how we prego’s get.😃

My next regular appointment is next week, so I’ll mention it then. Thanks!

I noticed them more with my second baby than with my first. My OB told me that if they ease up with walking around, that’s probably what they are.

You are most likely experiencing Braxton Hicks contractions. Sometimes you can’t even feel them, while other times they may take your breath away.

These contractions can become more noticable with each additional pregnancy.

The baby’s head may still be floating. Hence, the contractions are not painful. However, once the baby’s head engages, or your water breaks, you may start to feel more pain with the contractions.

Congratulation:)

Whatever you do, DO NOT WAIT. This is exactly how preterm labor starts. Better to tell the doctor now and have it be nothing, than waiting and being unable to do anything.

P.S I speak from experience, as I have worked Labor & Delivery for 25 years. When in doubt…CALL

By the BOOK I was having Braxton Hicks with my second pregnancy, well GUESS WHAT? It was the early stages of labor those irregular contractions, five hours later out popped my daughter!

I have had BHC all three pregnancies…starting about 4 1/2 months…the further along I am, the worst they are. My doctor also told me that if moving around stopped them, then that’s what they were, however, I have found bending over and doing alot around the house causes them also…so, everyone is different. They hurt to me…

I am 36 weeks right now…I believe my contractions that I have occasional are real now because I have already dilated some…
