I gave up finding something with sleeves. We got them at Davids Bridal because it was easiest because two bridesmaids lived near one city, and the other two in another city. We went with a halter-top dress that they all liked. This dress: davidsbridal.com/Product_Soft-Crinkle-Chiffon-Halter-with-Draped-Cascade-F12688_Bridal-Party-Bridesmaids-Long-Bridesmaid-Dresses

I had them make “modesty patches” for the v-neck out of the fabric that was cut from the bottom when they got them hemmed, and they wore chiffon wraps to cover their shoulders for Mass. They looked really nice.

Basically I found it easier to improvise than to stress to find a dress that that would work.

Wouldn’t it be nice if a search for “Catholic bridesmaids” or “Catholic wedding dress” turned up lovely modest dresses! :curtsey:
Yes, that would be nice. 🙂

Some of the most beautiful and modest bridesmaid dresses I have seen at Catholic weddings were the Indian saris. The girls were all completely covered up with these gorgeous, traditional outfits. I remember for one of the Indian weddings, one of the other musicians with me leaned over as the girls were walking down the aisle (we were in the choir loft) and said to me how refreshing it was to not have to see the girls’ cleavage. Most of the time, the brides would wear a traditional white gown (and I suppose the wore the a sari at the reception), but their bridesmaids were dressed in traditional Indian attire. Many of the female guests wore the same and it is just so colorful and beautiful.

Yes, in general most traditional/cultural dress is more modest that current weastern styles. Interstingly, I went tho the David’s Bridal site and sorted the long bridesmaids dresses by price. The first one (most expensive at $199) is a dress designed after the one Pippa Middleton wore to the royal wedding. It is both fashionable and modest. Maybe there is hope yet!

If the Mormons can restrict the styles, why can’t the priests stipulate that arms must be covered and necklines modest? Must everything be strapless?

davidsbridal.com/Product_Chiffon-and-Charmeuse-Dress-with-Rounded-Neckline-F12732_Bridal-Party-Bridesmaids-Long-Bridesmaid-Dresses This is the dress I picked out for my bridesmaids. It is VERY flattering on a variety of body types. It doesn’t have sleeves, but it has some nice straps and it comes up high enough to cover cleavage. When I got married it was over 100 degrees outside so long sleeves would have probably resulted in my bridesmaids passing out! haha Of course, you can always get a nice shawl to go over it if you want.

I know it’s a bridesmaid dress thread, but this link shows pics of favorite royal wedding gowns, which I think are usually much more modest than what is sold to people like us. I have seen some gowns similar to Kate Middleton’s after her wedding, but it didn’t catch on as much as I had hoped.

Maybe if brides have an affordable, good seamstress, they can have gowns made in similar styles as what has been used these royal brides.

I went to a wedding once where the bridesmaids wore very attractive sleeveless, knee-length dresses, but paired with matching cardigans. They looked very nice.
