What my cousin did – and I thought it was genius – was told her bridesmaids to choose their favorite black dress. She gave them guidelines of shoulders covered, knees covered, et cetera; but other than that it was up to them. It was very tasteful and each bridesmaid was super comfortable in the dress they chose.
Another idea is to choose some fabric – from a JoAnns or whatever you have in your area – and let the bridesmaids choose their pattern – again, with the guidelines you choose. You might get the names of some seamstresses in the area in case your bridesmaids don’t sew or have anyone in their family that can make it for them.
