I was at daily Mass the other day. I didn’t get there early enough to go to confession so I could receive the blessed Sacrament, so I sat in the back so people who didn’t know I couldn’t receive communion wouldn’t mistakingly push me along to go receive it. I though it was odd, looking around at the building building seemed darker than normal, the statues seemed kind of distant and one rather scaraly mean, which they never seemed before. After mass I chased down Father and went to confession, he even redid consecration so I could recieve comunion (awesome guy) and then in a sort of Stark contrast the world just was so bright and joyous. Does anyone ever notice this or am I just a little out there?

I’m guessing he did the rite of Communion Outside Mass, which includes the Our Father and the Lamb of God. Might be confused with the Consecration.

Yes. I beg your pardon. That is was he did. Sorry for the mess up.

You’re not crazy. I think it is kind of good though every once in a while to attend mass and not receive communion. It kind of makes you realize how vital communion really is.

I did that the other week - my first ever Maronite liturgy. Beautiful singing, lots of incense, lovely to watch - but I couldn’t properly follow a substantial chunk of it. So communion rolled around and out of respect I chose not to receive. Made me all the more hungry for it when I went back to my regular NO the next day.

But so many graces come from receiving, I wouldn’t want to miss unless I was conscious of mortal sin. I’d say don’t skip Mass even then, because it’s highly beneficial even if you don’t receive. Just take full advantage of the sacrament of Reconciliation to ensure that you’re fit to receive as often as possible 👍

Glad you visited the Maronite Church. In the Eastern Catholic Churches we do a lot of singing. One thing I did notice (thought I was just being my usual flakey self until I read this thread) was that after receiving Communion, I sure do sing a lot better:D!!!
