Greetings All,

Jan Wakelin suggested I write in with our experiences in launching Catholic radio in our area.

We at Ft. Wayne Catholic Radio incorporated as a 501(c)3 not-for-profit corporation 3 years ago. At the same time, we obtained the blessing of our bishop to buy one hour of air time to broadcast Catholic Answers Live on a local evangelical radio station. We were able to raise 6 months worth of funding in about a month and we went on the air. We’ve been airing Catholic Answers Live for the last 3 years.

At this time, we are working to purchase a full time Catholic radio station in greater Ft. Wayne. We have identified a local AM station willing to sell and we have lined up several cosigners to obtain a bank loan to fund the purchase. We are awaiting the bishop’s blessing to complete the acquisition. We are also looking at acquisitions in South Bend and other areas of our diocese.

Our bishop has been a guest on Catholic Answers Live in the past and is scheduled to be on again in August.

The airing of one hour of Catholic Answers Live has proved to be a good first step for us. We very much appreciate the work of Catholic Answers.

President, Ft. Wayne Catholic Radio

Chris,

To you and everyone at Ft. Wayne Catholic Radio, thanks very much for your efforts to bring a Catholic station to your area. We’re grateful that you saw something in our program that enabled you to whet the appetites of the folks in your area for Catholic programming.

May the Lord continue to prosper your efforts to launch a full time station. And thanks for encouraging your bishop, John D’Arcy, to be a guest on our show. I’m looking forward to the next program with him on August 8 when he’ll talk about Redemptionis Sacramentum.

Blessings!

Jerry

Yay! It’s nice to hear some good news about small but noble efforts like this taking hold then growing. Brokering time to air a show like CA is a great way to get the ball rolling at the local level.
