At the last class or R.C.I.A. before diving into First Confession, Mr. Strother breifly went over what we were to be doing and how eavrything went during the Easter Vigil in which wer are to be confirmed, I beleive that next tuesday we will be dedicating the whole class to the whole thing. But anyway my question is more to the effect of During the speech he said we might be taking out the Gifts (I think that was what it was called), well to any event the various things for Communion (I can’t wait for first communion doing estatic dance). My question is how does one do that? Is there a special prayer one must do? How does one do this? Thanks and God bless.

You just bring the bread and wine from where they are (at the back of the church) to the priest who is in the sanctuary. As far as any prayers, I am clumsy so if it were me, I’d say a quick prayer that I wouldn’t trip, but there isn’t any set form to it. It’s just a matter of picking up one of the gifts (the one you are told to bring up) and carrying it up the center aisle to the priest.

ask your catechist, but usually after the profession of faith, and Confirmations, if any, there may not be intercessions, if part of the rites replaced them, so ask your catechist for your “cue”: usually an altar server walks down the aisle carrying a processional cross to the back of church, or wherever the table is holding the gifts: the basket or bowl of hosts and a carafe of wine. There should be at least two people, one to hold each item. When you see that server move get up and follow him. Carry the gifts to the altar behind the server with the cross, go all the way up to where the priest is waiting. He will take them from you and hand them to a deacon or server. He may shake your hand or bless you. together, you bow, then return to your pew.

Depending on the number of candidates/catechumens, after the liturgy of the Word and any Baptisms our c/cs carry the floral decorations, the altar linens, and the unconsecrated bread and wine from the back of the Church to the altar where everything is put in place by the sacristan(s) in preparation for the Liturgy of the Eucharest. The “safari members” do not have any prayers to say or complicated movements to make.
