British TV commissions new "sitcom" about the Irish Potato famine

Lets hope so.
I have to admit to liking Father Ted. It crossed the line a few times, but for the most part it was pretty obvious this comedy was more fantasy than anything resembling reality.
There are just certain things one does not make a comedy out of. I seem to remember a sitcom pilot, that can only be seen on youtube, about Hitler and Eva Braun.
