I work at a hospital as a nursing assistant. I have a nurse who is “catholic”…not currently practicing but has a very strong christian look on the world.
She’s has such a good soul! I see her deal with her patients as if they were her own family.
Anyways, she opened up to me several days ago. I don’t know if it’s because of maybe she felt I could empathize (cause I have a brother that got into drugs) or why she came to me with this issue…but I’m very honored that she did.
She is a divorced woman with 3 children…one 27, one 19, one 4 or 5 years old.
the 27 year old is addicted to perscription medications and is a hot mess! She is also pregnant with a several month old child. Ultra sounds show the childs’s heart is transverse and that it has no skull bone …my nurse friend suspets the chold won’t make it especially since the 27 yr old won’t stop drugs.
I know the 27 dosen’t care about herself …I don’t know what started this…I didn’t go that far with my friend (I just wanted to hug her and show her that I understand the stress of having a drug addict in the family/home) .
She’s sooo confused and torn! She has her stay at the house…but then she gets high and pushes her out … and like alll parents with drug addicted kids …she wonders what’s the best course of action and etc etc etc
Anyways my question is this : does anyone have a good catholic book in mind that I could get her to give her ideas or at least strength and encouragement ???
