I know it seems like bishops are going to the extreme with the Carona-virus restrictions. What you must understand is that—their proverbial behinds are on the line for the safety and well being of their people.
If a bishop or priest throws caution to the wind and there is a mass outbreak of Carona because of it, they will be held responsible. That is why the extreme caution and restrictions. When your behind is on the line and when you will be held responsible for what happens, it stands to reason you are going to tend to listen to the experts even if you think they are extreme.
Who wants to go through the following:
“Bishop X, you knew that the experts were recommending restrictions to keep people safe. Is that correct?”
“Yes.”
“Yet you did not follow the restrictions. Is that correct?”
“Yes”
“Because you didn’t follow the restrictions, there was a mass outbreak of Carona. Is that correct sir?”
“Yes.”
“Why didn’t you follow the restrictions?”
“Because my people were demanding to have Mass and claiming I was depriving them of the sacraments.”
“Let me get this straight: you put the safety and well being of your people at risk because you caved to pressure? You put the safety and well being of your people on the line because you could not stand up to them and lead them when they needed you to be a leader? No further questions your honor.”
