I know someone who wears a blessed Brown Scapular. I asked if he’d been invested and he said no. He didn’t seem interested in investiture as he thought blessing from a priest was good enough. He also had never been told about the investiture.

Upon research, I saw that the Sabbatine promise is suspect as not being true because there is no historical evidence that the revelation happened. So is it okay to wear this scapular without being invested? Does the investiture have anything to do with the promise or is it for the scapular as a whole.
I know investiture also comes along with duties for certain prayers.

I myself wear a Green scapular for healing and also because I’m working on combatting sin/past mistakes and I want to grow in devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. I believe that scapular can simply be blessed and worn or placed somewhere in the house.

It is possible to wear the Brown Scapular without having been enrolled. The Sabbetine Privilege, as you said, is suspect, and both Carmelite Orders do not promote it. Enrollment then has nothing to do with it.

The promise of the brown scapular is that Mary will always give to those who wear it the graces to enter heaven. It can be simply blessed.
