I have seen Brown Scapulars that are made of brown felt I thought Brown Scapulars could only be made of wool in order to be considered authentic is this true?
A scapular is worn under clothing in an inconspicuous way. Traditional scapulars are made out of brown cloth like the type of cloth worn by Carmelite nuns. They can also be made out of leather, various colored cloth, vinyl, or plastic.
Know, though, that free scapulars are often poorly made, are not made of wool, and are not of traditional design. It is best if you can find a traditional source for your scapulars, especially the Brown Scapular.
I am not sure if that helps you or not but its a start. From reading that I think traditional brown scapulars are usually made out of wool, but they don’t have to be made out of wool.

The most recent ritual/catechesis document on the Brown Scapular published under the auspices of both the OCD’s and the O.Carm’s states that the scapular can be of any dark material.
