if my post undos Mark’s post, then people seriously needs to get a sense of humor
That is a symptom of the problem. Scrupulous people do not have a sense of humour about religion.

thats why i used a smiley with my post —> 😃

and yes, i do recognize that some people here take things way too seriously. and sometimes we miss the point. being overzelous is just as bad as being apathetic

choy,
I don’t think it has to do with being overzealous. Scrupulous people can’t help the panic, doubt or worry they feel in certain circumstances. What you and I see as obvious jesting may only create something else for a scrupulous person to worry about.

Here’s a quote from the following link…“One author described the experience of scrupulosity as “a thousand frightening fantasies” and yet another author as the “doubting disease.” Despite a person’s best efforts, despite his absolute commitment to the moral teaching of the Church, and despite his desire to serve the Lord, he is unable to arrive at a point of peace, confident that he’s done as much as can reasonably be required.”

thats why a little funny here or there would help lighten up the mood. its good people are serious about their faith, we don’t have enough of that today. but some people take it to the extreme, and those who do also miss the point. its like food, overcooking is as bad as undercooking. if we’re overanalyzing the law picking on every written word, then we miss the point of the law. and Jesus spoke many times in the Gospel against that. that people are more concered of fulfilling the law than pleasing God. we are so concerned about breaking the letter of the law when its not the law we seek to please but God.

=Mattjolley;6668982]If you brush your teeth in the hour before receiving Holy Communion, should you NOT receive the Sacrament?
Brushing ones teeth in no effects one Fast… The preist appreciates that you’ve done it and God appreciates that you beoieve in His real Presence and desire to receive Him.😉

Rather than the letter of the law, does anyone know the spirit of the law and why we fast? A small ingestion of toothpaste is not breaking the spirit of why we fast before receiving our Lord. I have to chuckle at some of the scrupulosity we Catholics exhibit… teachccd
How things change! I can recall instructions from 50 years ago in the old 24 hour pre-communion fast days that ‘if you swallow the least drop of water while brushing your teeth you have broken your fast’.Some catechists in those far off days must have been provided with yellow legal pads and a dictionary of scruples.🙂
