I would deport every single Marxist tomorrow. If you don’t agree with the values of this country then go to a country that has the values you do agree with.

I agree. I think that should apply to any ideology, be it secular or religious. I wouldn’t want Catholics here who don’t believe in the values of this country. And it doesn’t have to be too narrow. We should have them read the Constitution. If you can’t sign up for what it say, you’d be happy somewhere else.

I have been struck by the story of Sayyid Qutb, the Egyptian who is called the grandfather of modern radical Islam. He took advantage of the opportunity to study at three US universities, including Stanford and traveled widely around the country. He went back home after two years and started writing criticisms of the US based on some real issues, but also trivial things like boxing, bad haircuts, superficiality in conversations and friendships, enthusiasm for sports, lack of artistic feeling and the “animal-like” mixing of the sexes.

We don’t have a constitution so the scary thing is that the second largest political party is literally a party of Marxists who want the second coming of the Soviet Union. Our current government is thoroughly incompetent and there’s a scary possibility of what we call ‘the looney left’ getting power. it’ll be off to the gulag for me if that happens.

My moms from Manchester. Whenever I talk to my cousins across the pond I’m always at how far left Britain seems to have veered. They’re concerned.

Gee, are we going to have to send our boys “over there” and bail your backsides out AGAIN?

Just kidding! 🤣

In the end though, it was empty, at least for me.
Yes, emptiness is the point of Buddhism:
Here, O Sariputra, form is emptiness and the very emptiness is form; emptiness does not differ from form, form does not differ from emptiness, whatever is emptiness, that is form, whatever is form, that is emptiness, the same is true of feelings, perceptions, impulses, and consciousness.

I wrote a full reply that got flagged for moderation for some reason. But basically your cousins are correct and it’s scary. The left want to repeat the 1970’s which is literally the worst peace time decade in our history.

This is why some American’s have such a visceral reaction to those who want to continuously grow the welfare state.

No but we might have to export all our dregs over to your country AGAIN. Just kidding! 😂

LOL. That’s already happening! You still seem to have plenty of 'em though. Not like the good old days for either country.

Your cousins are correct. It’s damn scary. Basically we’ve been here before in the 1970’s - double digit inflation, economy grinds to a halt, people go down to 3 day working weeks to protect jobs, the dead don’t get buried on time. It’s literally the apologists for that era that are trying to bring it back.

Looking at it from a Muslim perspective, I don’t think I would agree that Islam is a more material religion than any other religion. Catholic spirituality seems extremely complicated to me, but it’s because I don’t fully understand the symbolism or the importance of certain ideas. I could see why someone who wasn’t familiar with the actual daily life practice of Islam might find our traditions and rituals sort of opaque, too. At the end of the day, it’s about what happens inside us. We’re all walking a path towards God and only God knows our progress. Sometimes He gives us guide posts along the way so we don’t wander off on our own tangent or hurt ourselves and others.
