So today it was in the 90s here, and I watered my garden and all my flower boxes, beds, and pots tonight as the sun was setting. As I was finishing, I reached down to turn off the faucet. A HUGE centipede was curled around the faucet, presumably enjoying the droplets of water that were around the connection to the hose! EWWWWWW! I TOUCHED IT!! I was so grossed out. I still have the back faucet to turn off…I am waiting for my 16 YO son to go do it for me. Yuck.

Country life is great ain’t it??? Next time you’re looking for some aerobic workout, try getting in your pool with a snake in the skimmer basket. Happened to us a couple of years ago - my neighbor was outside and came over during the commotion and asked what was up. I told him there was a snake in the skimmer, and had to get him out. Goober then proceeds to open the lid, pick up the snake, and run over to the woods and let him go. I guess he fancied himself a Steve Irwin clone…

I laughed till I cried, when I read this. How funny! But not for you, dear soul. :hug1:

Here’s my ultimate “creepy-crawly” story. When I was still living in California… in my parents house, I went outside one night to get the dogs in. I saw a dark form… sitting on the wall surrounding our yard. I THOUGHT it was a cat… so I went forward, to shoo it away… getting my hands less than an inch from this “thing”. But it wasn’t a cat.

It was the biggest, ugliest, smelliest OPPOSSUM I have EVER seen in my life! I nearly jumped out of my skin!

RAID doesn’t make a spray for THOSE things!

We have possums, raccoons, snakes and all sorts of insects I haven’t seen before. Even though we live smack in the CENTER of our city… right off a busy street (where you’d think there would be ZERO “critters”) we still had to stop leaving dry cat food on the porch for our cat, because it was attracting oppossums (I caught the Cali-oppossums cousin on our porch, munching away )… and who knows what else. There is always a LOT of “road kill” on our streets.

But you never seem them in the day time.

Umm… Opossums are nocturnal rodents. If you did see one during the day, that would be because it’s lair had been disturbed or it was sick. They are a carrier of rabies and when infected, they will often begin prowling about during the day. So if you see one during the day, you should avoid it and call your local animal control.

Ouuu. Thank you, “rpp”. I’ll remember that. I saw this one early in the morning, though… as I was leaving for work. It wasn’t quite daylight yet.

But now I’m even more scared of them. Elly May Clampett… I’m not.

The other critter that welcomed me fairly early on was a racoon. Early in the morning I saw him trotting from the the neighbor’s back yard, down the driveway toward the street with a very purposeful bearing. Just like he was heading off to work. All he needed was a little vest and tie and a briefcase. Cracked me up.
