I am a 17 year old girl. I take a yellow school bus to and from my high school, since it is considerably far away. The other day I took the city bus home since I had to stay 15 minutes later after school. I got lost and when I got out of the bus, the man who drives my yellow school bus every morning saw me. I was on the phone with my dad but he asked “is everything okay?” Stupidly I asked “would you give me a ride?” I asked my dad who was on the phone “is it okay? My school bus driver is here. He can pick me up.” When I was in the bus the bus driver said he had to apologize to me for “what’s been going on”. “What s been going on?” I asked. He said “You don’t know? I can’t keep my eyes off you.” I was creeped out so said “I’m sorry would you let me out.” He asked me “are you scared?” And I nodded but said “I won’t tell anyone.” I didn’t want to get him fired! But now I am seriously creeped out. What should I do?

I know that’s a smart thing to do, but I did say I wouldn’t tell anyone.

You need to tell someone. Otherwise he will be able to carry on making you and others uncomfortable.

My dear young lady, you are not bound by the fact that you told the bus driver that you would not tell anyone what he said to you. By reason of your age, inexperience and and the implicit pressure put on you by a older man in a position of authority, you were not in a position to make such a statement of your own free will. You were pressured by this man even if you didn’t realize it. I am old enough to be your grandmother, and I have seen a lot of things. Please tell your father. Men such as this bus driver count on this subtle pressure to keep kids quiet so that they continue to victimize them. You have done nothing wrong. Tell your father and let him handle things from there. You have the right to ride the school bus to and from school in peace.

What @Marysann said.

It is improper influence of him to want you to keep it quiet.

As I understand this post, your school bus driver was driving a bus when he picked you up and drove you. And the bus driver said this while driving that bus. Was there anyone else on the bus.

That bus driver is way out of line and displaying very bad behaviour. Please tell your parents, and or someone in authority at the school. This driver will be , no doubt, doing this to more than one young lady .

These men, displaying this predatory behaviour always coerce their targets ( that is you) into staying silent. It is part of their criminal activity. You are NOT bound to stay quiet and you should not stay quiet.

Scroll down to “Moral and Theological considerations” and read the first few sentences. Yes, it is speaking about vows, but exactly the same logic applies to promises. You will commit no sin by talking to your father about this. It was a promise you technically shouldn’t have made, but ot was under duress and is not morally binding in any way whatsoever.

It would not have been a promise, let us call it what it is, manipulation, and part of the predatory behaviour of this man. This young lady should know and be told she was not making a promise, instead she was being manipulated and perhaps subject to veiled threats.
She has done no wrong and will do only right in telling her parents and school staff in authority.

Also, this man as a city emplyee in a position of trust is in position to take advantage of any other number of others. His employer actually should be notified, but let your dad figure out how to deal with that.

I’d tell your parents you’re a minor and he sounds like he’s potentially a dangerous person

I am very sorry this happened to you. My prayers are with you. Please tell someone, your parents or someone from the school. This was highly inappropriate of him and for your good as well as the good of everyone he contacts, you should tell someone. Also for his good you should tell someone, so he is taken out of this position that is clearly tempting him to commit something bad.
