Butler's "Lives of the Saints"

I would like to buy this book, but after doing some searching on the internet, I see many different versions, some concise versions, others like a set of books, others for each month, etc. I didn’t know it was this complicated. What is the difference in all these different versions?

I think they’re just different editions, the results of history. (It is a very old work!)

From what I’ve heard, I think there’s a one-volume one (which must be heavily abridges) and maybe 3 or 4 volumes.

I myself have the 12-volume set, one for each month. I don’t see how you could do it with less volumes!
