Buying The White Robe !?

I DO NOT UNDERSTAND A PASSAGE FROM THE BOOK OF REVELATION :Rev 3:17 You say to yourself: I am rich, I have made a fortune and have everything I want, never realising that you are wretchedly and pitiably poor, and blind and naked too.
Rev 3:18 I warn you, buy from me the gold that has been tested in the fire to make you truly rich, and white robes to clothe you and hide your shameful nakedness, and ointment to put on your eyes to enable you to see.

HOW CAN ANYONE BUY ANY OF THE LISTED IN THIS PASSAGES???

The notes in the Jerusalem Bible translation, from which you quoted these verses, indicate that the gold tested in fire relates to “true riches that are of the spirit”, whereas the robes and ointment are “needed to repair the blindess and nakedness referred to in verse 17”, but may refer to the “local products for which Laodicea was known” --Laodicea, to whom this message was addressed. I don’t know if you have the JB with the notes or not…if so I probably didn’t help any, if not then maybe this will shed some light on the matter:shrug:

Regardless, this passage is being written to Laodecia, which is described as being spiritually poor (here referred to as blind and naked) but rich in material goods (e.g., robes and ointment). They are being asked to “buy the goods” (i.e. accept those goods)offered by the Lord rather than the worldly goods they seek so as to increase their spiritual wealth, thereby enabling them to repent, be victorious, and “share the throne of Christ” (v. 21). Just my interpretation…

In Revelation 19:8, the bride of the Lamb is described as having a white dress which represents the righteous deed of the saints.

Perhaps the white robe mentioned in Revelation 3:17 also represents righteous deeds. Thus, this would be similar to the instruction that St. Paul gives for the rich in this world in 1 Timothy 6:17As for the rich in this world, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on uncertain riches but on God who richly furnishes us with everything to enjoy. 18They are to do good, to be rich in good deeds, liberal and generous, 19thus laying up for themselves a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of the life which is life indeed.
