Holy Island Tinos
This island was proclaimed by Holy Synod of Greek Orthodox Church “Holy Island of the Mother of God.” Here is kept the main holy object of independent Greece - the miracle working ikona of the Announciation of the Most Holy Mother of God, which by tradition was painted by Holy Apostle and Evangelist Luka. To this ikona from the port there is a special “Penitential path” which pilgrims walk on knees to venerate the Holy object. They do this to strengthen their prayer and in thankfulness to Mother of God for miraculous help received from her. At this site there is a Holy Spring of water.
