C of E bishop gives backing to transsexual priest

The Anglican Bishop of Hereford, the Rt Rev Anthony Priddis, has spoken warmly of the calling and priestly ministry of a transsexual woman, following a crticism of her ordination this weekend by the Evangelical Alliance.

The Rev Sarah Jones, aged 43, is an assistant curate in Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire. She was born as Colin Jones and spent the first 33 years of her life living as a man before treatment for gender dysphoria, a recognised medical condition.

Ms Jones, a former Roman Catholic, was ordained a deacon last July. She was priested on Saturday by the Bishop of Hereford, with support from parishioners in the Ross team ministry.

I wonder if DNA testing would indicate this person is male or female? Hmmnnn!

Germaine Greer (!) had something to say about men like this. I forget the exact quote but it was in The Whole Woman and she commented that no one had asked women if we want to have these men calling themselves women just because they decide to have an operation.

There should be another gender designation and pronoun to describe them. Any ideas anyone?

I found something about it…

"No-one has asked XX females if they mind male-to-female transsexuals being called ‘she’ "

I know it is not PC but it is sad that people get surgery when what they really need in professional counselling. I mean, what if I decided I was really another species and I asked for surgery to transform me? Get real.

Ms Jones is a former Roman Catholic. Gee, I wonder why Ms Jones left the Church. Could it have had something to do with wanting a denomination that would let people decide for themselves what is right and what is wrong?
