"Church of England evangelicals intensified their battle over homosexuality yesterday by calling on hundreds of parishes to reject the spiritual authority of liberal bishops.

Reform, the conservative evangelical network, announced plans for a national campaign in the statement to its 1,700 members.

The group called on parishes to test whether their diocesan bishops held “orthodox” beliefs on homosexuality. If their bishops’ views proved unacceptible, they were urged to declare themselves in “impaired communion” or to cap their contributions…"

Wow! Can we, Catholics do that, with the 186 bishops who refused, as a body, to deny Holy Communion to “Catholic” politicians who are openly pro-abortion?

Well when the Anglicans act, apparently they certainly do so, today I read about one in Australia I believe who got himself involved in a scandal and is being “defrocked” - whoever the archbishop is he certainly acted decisively.

As for us - sigh…I figure for Christmas we ought to chip in and send the CDF and the Congregation for Bishops one very large bottle of Excedrin. The good news is that lately we’ve been hearing about some really forthright and decisive newer bishops - good for them! May their tribe increase.
 
I say good for the Evangelicals in the Church of England!

Unfortunately we don’t hear of much resistance from the Anglo-Catholics in the C of E. Apparently the group is too small or too theologically unorthodox.

This raises another point, one might assume the “bells and smells” crowd was theologically more conservative. We can see that in this case it isn’t so. The “Mass” of the Church of England can be a theatrical masterpiece but it is no indication that they will tend toward orthodox Christianity.

C.S. Lewis would have a lot to say about all of this.

No. One of the defining characteristics of Catholics is that we submit to the moral authority of the Pope and the council of Bishops. Noone else has the requirement. THe Catholic Church is NOT a democracy.
 
I thought it was 180 bishops? I heard six voted to refuse Holy Eucharist to those evil monsters. I think one of them was good ole Archbishop of St.Louis Burke

Good on them…don’t split the Church at the first outbreak of diseent, just change it from within!

And those are the key words, “acting decisively!”

Yes, they are “newer bishops” and that gives me hope that the future of the Church in this country will be much better. I will probably be 90 by the time that happens.

No, 186 bishops voted to have individual bishops deny Holy Communion to pro-abortion Catholic politicians if they so desire. However, they did not endorse the idea that as a “body” of bishops Holy Communion should be denied to Catholic politicians. Cardinal Ratzinger seems to have endorsed the idea that all bishops should deny Holy Communion to recalcitrant politicians once they had been warned, etc. etc. Well, we now come to find out some bishops, especifically Bishop Vasa, never heard the full text of Ratzinger’s letter.
