I’ve been here since 2013, sporadically, under 3 different accounts, between the ages 15-23. I read much more than I post. It’s interesting to me that people still post the same kinds of topics and have the same kinds of debates as they did back then–even right up until the final weeks of CAF.

I think part of that is human nature.
Some people just want to be argumentative.

Y’know, I haven’t seen any arguments lately on gun control. Maybe things do change.

My right shall not be infringed @Beryllos! I’ve seen what happens to countries that confiscate guns… Donald Sutherland gathers the children from each town together and forces them to engage in gladiatorial combat for show!

Yes, I am referring to Canada…

I think this was true until 2016/Trump-Hillary. At that point the World News forum turned into a dumpster fire that for the most part consumed the rest of CAF. Of course, some of the traditional topics continue to be debated, but with comparatively less enthusiasm.

Trump/Clinton
This has nothing to do with my opinion,
but, with presidential candidates, you always use surnames
That said,
let’s have a Smith/Smith election!

Of course the forum never changes, given that the same people stay here for years or even decades, and when somebody does get banned they just come back 3 and 4 times under other usernames and continue posting what they were posting before.

The fact that forum administration didn’t screen new accounts and didn’t exert any kind of control or limitation on topics made it inevitable that the same topics would be posted 2750 times and the same people would say the same things about them. Really, most of the site could have been replaced with a chatbot that would automatically pop up canned responses on the most popular topics like masturbation and “is this a sin” and “why does God allow bad things to happen”.

Tis_Bearself, I’m tempted to take your post as a profound critique of society itself, since the same lack of control and limitations apply to human conversation in general, and people seem to have similar responses to the same popular topics in general.
