Cain had a wife?

How is it possible Cain had a wife if he was the son of Adam and Eve?
 
Likely a sister or cousin. We don’t know when he took his wife, many years could have passed. Look how long they lived.
 
Is it literal how long they lived or indicative of trying to convey a message?

Genesis 3:20 The man gave his wife the name “Eve,” because she was the mother of all the living.
Genesis 5:4 Adam lived eight hundred years after he begot Seth, and he had other sons and daughters.
 
Probably a combination of both. We don’t know for sure. Certainly elements of both (message and longevity) are consistent with the Word as presented.
 
cains wife is ambiguous, we don’t treat the early chapters of genesis as literal history
