The Jewish writer Philo in “The Sacrifices of Cain and Abel”; gives an explanation of the sacrifices. He points to the phrase "after some days’ Cain offered to God fruits of the earth. One Cain was slow in offering to God his just worship, unlike Abel who was timely; not after some days. Also Cain offered of the fruits, not the “first fruits” of his reaping. So his sacrifice was less worthy in Gods sight. The moral of the story is be timely in your service to God, offering him the best of your labors; or Don’t be late for Church!
