Thank you for posting this.

I was stationed at Fort Polk in the early 80s and loved Cajun culture. I could go for some red beans and rice!!

Blessings

Thank you for the kind words and the blessings. Same to you my friend. Hope all are well.

FYI for those who don’t know, “Cajun,” is slang for Acadian. Much the same way “injun” is slang for Indian.

I’m 100% Acadian. My grandparents came from New Brunswick and I studied the history of the Acadians.

Back when France was looking to settle the New World in what is now Nova Scotia, they asked for volunteers, who met the prerequisites.

One was that they were strong devote Catholics.
This was because just to the south were the Protestant New England Colonies, dominated by Puritans who hated the Papists and forced British Troops to attack the Acadians several times.

Second, was the prerequisite was that they had to have some type of trade or experience in farming. The area of Port Royal in Nova Scotia, required dikes to be built and maintained. The Acadians who came, had men who were experts in this skill.

Thank you for your interest. Acadian history very important to me as well. Part of my family tree traces to Beaubassin. A trip to Nova Scotia (Acadie prior) is on my bucket list. Peace be with you

Me too, I’d love to make a trip to Nova Scotia.

I’m in New England, so it’s not as far, but we have a little dog which we would never place with anyone and she relates going in the car to going to the groomer or vet. A long trip is not in the works as long as we have her. 😃

Wow – that was neat! What a great look at Catholic culture. Thanks for sharing that!
