Calgary University to Judge Pro-Life Students in Closed-Door Hearings Today.

The group’s pro-life display, called the Genocide Awareness Project, has been held on the University of Calgary grounds without incident eight times since 2006. The display compares abortion to past historical atrocities, such as the Rwandan genocide and the Holocaust in Nazi Germany.

“In exercising our freedom of expression rights, there is not a single University of Calgary bylaw or regulation broken,” said CPL Secretary Cristina Perri, “Obviously we’re going to challenge or appeal any adverse decision that comes from these or future hearings.”

In 2009, the University charged six students with trespassing in relation to the display, but the Crown Prosecutor stayed these charges prior to a trial scheduled for November of 2009.

In a statement to media on April 18th following notification of the Non-Academic Misconduct charges, CPL Vice-President (External) Cameron Wilson stated the Club’s position, “Our message to the University is this: do unto us whatever you desire, punish us however you wish; but our convictions shall not change, and we shall not alter our actions based on intimidation

Please pray for these brave students who are undergoing the persecution and crucifixtion that we will all be subject to in time.

I really hope that they told the university to jump in a lake with regard to legal representation and that they brought a tape recorder at least if not a video camera-and perhaps a journalist to operate them. 😉

They need some strong alumni who are pro-life to take up their-nothing send a university off whining and licking its wounds than enraged alumni with closed chequebooks. 😃

These kids are sophisticated and are not sheep to be shorn lightly. They have the support of every pro-life organization in Canada. If there is any penalty what so ever the uuniversity will face unprecedented protest and out and out harrassment. They will have their butts sued off.

That’s good-I’m a big fan of the “wise as serpents” approach when dealing with an unjust authority that is overstepping its perogative. Document it then deal with it. This bullying needs to be nipped in the bud before there’s some sort of legal precedent made like the one that just happened in the UK. Then everyone suffers.

Kudos to them! It’s about time someone pointed out the similarity: most people don’t know that the legal and social precedent for the Nazi atrocities consisted in (1) the legalization of abortion in 1920 Weimar Germany and (2) Hunger Houses (places where the deformed or incurably ill were brought and allowed to die from starvation) during the 20’s in Weimar.

Hi Soutane,

I am a U of C alumnus & also an RC.

I am, however, NOT residing in Canada.

So, many thanks for highlighting the plight of the CPL to all of us.

Will keep all of you in our prayers.

God Bless!

Have this persistent feeling that everything will turn out just fine in the end.
