SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - The California Supreme Court on Thursday voided the nearly 4,000 same-sex marriages sanctioned in San Francisco this year and ruled unanimously that the mayor overstepped his authority by issuing licenses to gay and lesbian couples.

The court said the city illegally issued the certificates and performed the ceremonies, since state law defines marriage as a union between a man and woman.

What? California did something decent? I don’t believe it.

Well, technically nothing was voided since IMHO they were never marriages in the first place. It’s like saying “this apple is an orange” and now someone is saying “hey that apple was never an orange it’s still an apple” so in reality it was, is and always will be an apple!

The people of California never wanted the “marriages” to happen. It was a rogue Mayor that did this. Hooray for the courts this time!

It’s good news but I’m sorry to think that it’s just a technicality at this point, the court only reversed what the mayor did which was to wed the couples in violation of CA law. The next step I’m sure for the advocates is to petition the court to find that the law is unconstitutional. I’m sure they’ll petition a Northern CA court as ya’ll know it’s pretty “liberal” out here… 😦

Who cares if it was just a “technicality” or not…just pray and thank the Good Lord for this!!! In a country where the moral basis is being underminded by perverts and socialists we should give thanks for this…the way I see it, it is a victory for the moral future of our nation.

May God bless and preserve America and our Christian values…

Im glad this ruling went the way it did, but it is not a “moral victory” in any way - it is a legal victory. The courts ruled that a mayor does nto have the legal right to supercede state law.
The true challenge as mentioned earlier will be when the state supreme court rules that marriage is only legal for 1 man and 1 woman. That’s where our prayers and dollars need to go…

Yes - it is by no means over. We should thank God of course for the victory in this battle, but the war is so far from over.
We must pray and continue to work very hard through activism and/or example to stem this tide of moral decay.

Praise God 👍

But just wait, they (the gay supporters) will find a way of getting around this. 😦

Just keep praying all :gopray2:

How cruel of that official to grant those licenses in the first place, knowing the courts could overturn them, to put those people through the charade and then expose them to this public hurt. Whatever your opinion of their lifestyle, nobody deserves to be treated this way by a public official. People have the right for their elected and appointed officials to uphold the law. When the law is broken by those in power it results in nothing but harm. I am sure this is not the end of the story in California, but it is based on a lie, that homosexual activity is normal and that a sexual union between same sex couples should be endorsed by the state as a good for society. A lie can never result in justice or happiness.

Yes this is very good news. It’s too bad we can’t get a constitutional amendment stating the definition of what a marriage is.

Oh yes, Thank God! Like mkw says, we must pray and then pray some more.:gopray2: God Bless and have a blessed day. Please pray for all the victims of Hurricane Charley.

How true - it’s suprising to me that in our local paper, the SF Chronicle, some gay activists are realizing that they may have been used by the young, “dynamic” and handsome mayor, who seems to be now the toast of the media and the Democratic Party here in CA and nationally even though right now Kerry is keeping his distance.
I also think this was a self-centered media trick but one with more damaging results than most people realize, God help us!!
