California. A state full of natural beauty and unnatural insanity. Back when Grey Davis was still Governor, he boasted that Calif. was the most pro-choice state in the union. My husband was recently listening to a talk by Fr. Frank Pavone, who stated that Calif. is responsible for 1/4 of the annual abortions in the US. California is a big state, but there is no way this is proportional to its population relative to the rest of the country. 1/4 of all US abortions occuring in one state.

And they still don’t have parental consent laws for minors seeking abortions. That’s one reason I don’t live there anymore. DH and I couldn’t handle the thought of raising daughters in a state that won’t protect them

There is a ballot initiative in CA that was very narrowly defeated two years ago that, if passed will create parental notification laws for abortions on minors. It is back on this year’s ballot for round two. Please pray that it will pass this time.

Get real. If abortion is easy to obtain in one place, and difficult in another, women will go to the first place. Irish women fly to the UK all the time. Used to be those who had money in the USA flew to Sweden or Switzerland. (Before RW) Those who didn’t have money went to Mexico.

Right now California has a lot of abortions for women in states where it is more restrictive or unavailable in their area. Air fares are still quite cheap

I doubt if the Supreme Court could ever outlaw abortions. What they can do is allow states the right to outlaw abortions, thus assuring that women in those states will go to states like…well…California.

I know California has a bad reputation in some circles, but we did pioneer “right turn on red after stop”

Agreed. Calif. doesn’t have to be part of the problem, though.

Depends on what you consider cheap. Abortions themselves are not cheap. (In fact, there’s a thread around here discussing that… they run between $200 and $400 each, depending on when, where, and what kind. Anasthesia is extra) And it’s especially important to make sure that people aren’t transporting minors across state lines to get abortions without their parents’ permission.

Hah. Yes. Having been born and raised there, I am very aware of California’s merits. It saddens me to think it has such a legacy of blood to soil them.
