My wife and I got called to serve in a Cursillo retreat. A cursillo is a three day retreat where you meet yourself, you meet Christ and you meet your Cursillo friends. Cursillo is a way to evangelize people by doing ordinary things and using friendship as a tool to evangelize. The first weekend is for men and the next weekend is for women. When my wife got the called she got really excited. I then got the call and got really excited and immediately said yes.

The next day, my work schedule changed and now I’m working midnight shift, which I have not done in a while. Meetings for Cursillo preparation are Tuesdays and Fridays from 6-9pm, and is out of town, about a 40 minute drive, that means I have to be awake all afternoon and then work from midnight to 8am; I have trouble sleeping during the day. My wife and I started arguing a lot and to top it off, I don’t really feel comfortable in the preparation because I’m kind of a loner, and in this Cursillo movement, friendship is kind of the focus. I’m three weeks into the preparation and the retreat is not until July, so if I telle them that I want to get out, they still have time to find a replacement. I also have an 11 year ole daughter so that makes it hard because We got to leave her at my in-laws and then have to wake her up to bring her home close to 11 pm and she has school the next day.

It seems I’m full of excuses and would like to get out, but when I said yes, they told me, “Christ counts on you” and I had to reply, “and I count on him.” So by getting out In a way, I’m disappointing God. What should I do???

Find one at a time that’s doable. 🤷 they have them at many parishes.
Call your Chancery offices. They should have a Master Calendar of such offerings.

If you can’t do the retreat due to work and family commitments, you can’t right now. You have to consider your station in life as well. Good luck! 🙂

Your first vocation is to your spouse and children. If this is interfering with your full function here, then make it a secondary priority

I recommend finding a retreat more suited to your personality. You will benefit much more.

Thanks for your responses. I think I’m going to cancel on my commitment to serve in the Cursillo retreat. I just feel bad with God and also with those persons who invited me and were counting on me. I lived my Cursillo experience three years ago and it was a wonderful experience.

Hi,

Karen and I have been to Cursillo retreat.

Its a powerful -Faith experience.

RE: “Christ is counting on you”

It IS that SAME Christ who is in charge, and for unknown reasons changed your schedule.🙂

BOW OUT, what God did, God did for a reason. AMEN!

God Bless you both!
