Have you ever felt called to something, that isn’t necessarily the priesthood? I grew up Byzantine Catholic and now live in an area where there aren’t any Byzantine Catholics. (In case you never heard, we exists and our priest are allowed to have families.)

This might sound crazy, but I feel more at home in the Roman Catholic Church. The Orthodox are not welcoming at all, even though some Byzantine Catholic’s claim (falsely) that we are more like them. I do want to get married and have kids someday. Sometimes I feel that I am called to have a family and serve God at the same time.

I love listening to church hymns that we never sing in the Byzantine Catholic Church. They are super inspiring and enriching to my life. Lectio Divina is also inspiring. Some people, even Roman Catholics, have negatively bad mouthed Lectio Devina. How and why can they take offense to something that is their own?

I also have a deep interest in social psychology and have thought about getting a PhD in it from a Catholic University. The only problem is that i haven’t found a Catholic University that offers one.

What should I do? I don’t live a life that is worthy of carrying the cross, but I have carried the cross at the last 2 masses that I have attended (carried it out).

I’m not sure if you’d have to officially change rites or anything, but Roman Catholic Churches have married Deacons. Deacons preach at Mass, assist at Mass and, I think they can perform Baptisms.

I have not officially changed rites. How old do you have to be in order to become a Deacon in the Roman Catholic Church? In the Byzantine Catholic Church, you have to be 35 years old just to start. I am 31. Can Roman Catholic Deacon’s get married after ordination or do they need to be married before ordination?

Age, not sure. I believe marriage would come before ordination. Can you imagine ordained clergy dating!? What a scandal!

It would be a scandal. What is more is me dating a non-christian (she won’t come to church with me), and i was picked to carry the cross. You are talking to a Catholic man who never dated a Catholic woman. I tried, but no Catholic woman will date me.

Does it matter that I was chosen to carry the cross when the bishop was in town?

You can change rites and get married, then become Latin Permanent Deacon. If anything you can change rites easily if you marry Latin Catholic. Go to whichever Rite that calls you, but remain IN the Church.

People badmouth even their things- saying they dont like something is fine, saying it’s bad is not. People aren’t perfect but that in itself does not mean Lectio Divina is bad, love God do what you want.

Yeah no one is worthy, only God brings us closer to being worthy. Always remember you are unworthy servant but remember God is with you and just strive to be closer to be worthy every day, that’s what Christians are called to do. If you fall get up, if you get closer don’t get proud but remember all you own, all you do and all the credit for it comes from God belongs to God.

I am not an expert on the matter, but from my understanding marriage is a vocation so if you feel marriage is what your path is, then being a good husband and father is serving God.

Also, you can always be active in your local parish if you feel called to do even more than be a husband and father. In the mean time learn everything you can about faith so that you can lead your family in a way that greatly serves God.

OP you already have a thread on the same topic.
Praying for you to Virgin Mary and Archangel Gabriel, on this holy and blessed day, so that God delivers you the answer.

I do not expect anyone from the Byzantine Catholic Church to understand

Before the OP decides to petition for a change of rites, it should be noted that Eastern Catholics are a very small percentage of Catholics worldwide. Any less ECs as it is means that my fellow RCs may not be familiar with them in the future - including RCs who may be later called to roles in which they absolutely must know about their existence in order to effectively minister to their parishioners, namely priests, deacons, and DREs. I do not know how much time the OP spent considering the matter.

One thing, if so called, would be to discern the diaconate with the canonical Byzantine Catholic church the OP is a member of. Then if there is a need, he can obtain the faculty to minister on a stable basis in the Latin Church.

If he absolutely has considered the matter for a long time and is completely sure he would rather be a Latin Catholic, then he could petition for a transfer of rites – a Catholic can normally do this only once in his or her lifetime.

As a Latin (Roman) Catholic, I want to make sure that the OP knows what all his options are before he makes final decisions.
