Just found out we’re moving AGAIN, this time to the area/counties surrounding Philadephia, PA (probably Bucks, Chester or eastern Montgomery). If any of you can recommend a GREAT Catholic parish WITH ITS OWN CATHOLIC ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, and hopefully also with a pastor that actually LEADS his flock, please forward your comments a.s.a.p. We’re moving in 1-2 months!
Thanks for your help. 👍

Sue,

At first, I didn’t understand your question about do any “parishes have their own catholic schools?” In the Philadelphia archdiocese most parishes have their own catholic schools and the few that don’t join with a neighboring parish. Then I noticed from your posting that you are from Ca. We take our catholic school system here for granted. But it is one of the best in the country. And the tuition is usually very reasonable. Many non catholics in the city send their children to the catholic schools because of the failure of the Phila. public school system.

We have a new bishop- Cardinal Justin Rigali. He is very orthodox and should have a positive effect on the diocese.

As for a specific parish, I am a member of St. Catherine of Siena in Horsham, Eastern Montgomery Co., Pa. We have a new pastor so he is still learning the ropes. But all our priests are orthodox in their teaching. Our parish also has Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration. This has been a great blessing to the whole parish community. And yes, we do have a great catholic school too.

There are a number of parishes in the area you specified with good parishes and schools. And several have Eucharistic Adoration as well. I would recommend any with adoration because of the graces that come from it. I don’t know the web address but you could google it, for the Archdiocese of Phila. They list all the parishes and link you to their web sites too. The web sites should tell you if they have adoration or not.

Good luck and welcome to the east coast.

Thank you Princess Abby and Mary’s Lamb for your help. I’ve spent the better part of two days investigating every Catholic school in the Lehigh Valley that’s listed on the web.
I’m originally from Baltimore, MD, and we made the trek to California only 9 months ago. The company my hubby works for needs him back in Philly again, so here we go! (This will be our 8th move, 6th school for the kids…the oldest is only 10!)
For the last 7 moves, we focused primarily on picking the house FIRST, then finding a good school nearby. This time, I’m trying it the other way around----pick a good school first, then a home nearby.
My children attended public school the last 3 years due to lack of space at the catholic schools, even in the east. I’ve been so nervous about them staying in public school, I promised myself months ago that if we ever moved again, they would never go to another public school. (Please know that I’m not condemning ALL public schools; this year was just particularly hard, some kids were so cruel to my children.)
Please pray for my success in finding room for my little ones, and thanks for your help. If I do end up at your parish, look for me…I’ll be the one with a nice tan that’s trying to get used to breathing the humidity again. 😛
That’s ok, it’ll be worth it to hug my parents again.

Sue,
Have you ever considered homeschooling your children? With all the moves, they would have the consitency of the same educational program. Especially, if you enrolled them in one of the catholic homestudy programs.

I thought about homeschooling once, and both my husband and I nearly died from hysterical laughter  😛 . I haven’t the patience, nor does my youngest have the ability to focus without a classroom structure (in other words, she doesn’t listen to me), so…
anyway, I’ve found two great schools with openings, one in Doylestown, the other in Maple Glen. House sold in less than 5 hours today (I love Jesus-he’s so good to me!) and we’ll be home- shopping by the end of the month.
Thanks again for your help.

p.s. Have you found a cure for the humidity yet??? hee hee.

Yes! It’s called air conditioning. LOL

Welcome back to the Delaware Valley. Maple Glen is next to me in Horsham.

Sue,

I have a humidity update for you. Today it was about 94% most of the day. Now that it’s raining it’s 100%. I remember once we went on vacation in Nevada in August. The locals were complaining about the humidity there. It was 12%.
