Calling all non-Catholics (In honor of OS)

To come out like the JW’s do. Are you sure that’s a good idea. People don’t like it when the JW’s come to their door, disrupting them and such. They, The JW’s were not invited and most people take offence to that. So I would say yes I would mind. Not because I don’t respect them and what they stand for. Because I did not invite them over. Think about how much you are anoyed when someone comes over unannounced, like the JW’s do. See we at my church do home visits from people who have visited our church only. If they want to they fill out a form with their name address ph.# and check the box saying it alright to come to their home and visit with them or they check the box that says they don’t want to be visited. If they check the box wanting us to visit we call them first to make sure that its still ok for us to visit, and a time that is good for them. But we do not go door to door uninvited. If they say the don’t want to be visited we don’t visit them. See they make the first move by coming to our church in the first place, so that means that they are here visiting relatives or friends or it means that they are intrerested in our church and our religion and want to know more about us and our church. We do not force ourselves on them or anyone. Its totally up to them, not us. And just think about this do you want to put your nuns in the same possition that people do to the JW’a in.

Where there are no nuns, volunteers will be trained and then sent out to the parishes neighborhoods to spread the “Good News”.

Would you be open to having the nuns or volunteers discuss with you in your home the truth of Catholicism with the express purpose of converting you?

Protestants and JW’s do it all the time in my area, heck they do it right in the middle of the grocery store

are you speaking of the Universal Catholic Church, which is not dwindling in attendance and membership worldwide, or are you speaking of one parish or one diocese that is conducting a door to door evangelization–not conversion–campaign. care to provide any links or facts

all Catholics are called by virtue of their baptism to evangelize, and when parishes or dioceses spread the good news of the gospel, all the Catholics, lay, religious or cleric, who participate are carrying out the mission of the Church. they are not doing it to harass or browbeat, but to give the good news. Those who do not want to respond are free to reject.

this diocese like many others is participating in Disciples in Mission. This is an evangelization effort which began with a 3 year catechesis and bible study for all parishioners based on the Sunday lectionary cycle, led by trained facilitators. The second phase is the door to door campaign, again conducted in selected areas by those who have been trained for this work, and the contact consists of a simple invitation to a parish event, with an offer of a simple tract and engagement in conversation for those who welcome it. Phase 3 is in depth bible study in the parishes, which is starting this year, as the door-to-door campaign continues. You can reference it at the diocesan website cdob.org. The goal is first to catechize those ins the pews, next evangelize Catholics and bring back to the parishes those who are not attending for whatever reason, and then to reach non-Catholics. It is a multi-year project and the door-to-door effort is part of it but not all of it.

Well, now that we heard more about this door to door plan in detail, who would object to this? I certainly would welcome anyone in this campain to talk or leave literature with me. I just hope they are not mistaken for JW’s. JW’s are irritating.
