Calling for a Crusade

What would happen if the Pope decided to call for a Crusade on to someone. What do you all think would happen? Would war actually happen? Or would it just make us Catholics seem silly?
Feel free to share any thoughts on the matter and any possible outcomes that may happen.
 
I find it interesting with the number of outcomes that possibly occur.
 
You are probably right. Lol. However, being that i typically never post a thread, I just thought i put a thought provoking one up.
 
Well, Catholics care about peace. WE tend to believe that changes come from dialog and example, not force.

I don’t think a Crusade would do anything unless a secular power actually got involved. And there are very few Catholic friendly countries around. I can only think of Poland at the moment. The Pope doesn’t have as much control over countries as he had in the Middle Ages. Random Catholics would probably not get up and band together and go take over another city. Much less a country.

The Crusades in the Middle Ages were able to succeed as much as they did because they had “secular” rulers take the Cross.

Besides, there is so much misinformation about the Crusades that most would ignore it and laugh about it.

I think the Pope’s of late have called for a number of Crusades. An organized effort by Catholics and Christians to attempt to prevail against enemies of the church. Crusades against abortion, white slavery, against intolerance, against anti Semitism, and others. They are just crusades against evil spirituality. Those crusades are always necessary.
Of course, if you are referring to something like the Medieval Crusades which were military in nature, I don’t think his three hundred Swiss Guards with their pantaloons and spears would be successful against the firepower of whoever they went after. A military crusade? In today’s world, that’s almost funny.

I would think whatever fiction book was presenting that should be laid aside, and instead the Gospels should be picked up.
