It was not long ago that I had my first bowl of Miso Soup. I was amazed at the immediate calming effect it had on me. More than any other food or beverage.

What calms you down?

TEA. Any kind, really (preferably camellia sinesis (sp?), IOW, ‘real’ tea, not that herbal blends aren’t delicious in their own right), but I find that a real Chinese oolong is best for digestive calming, and a China Keemun or a Jasmine pearls green tea best for overall relaxation.

Now for COMFORT (as opposed to calm), anything turkey and preferably on my home-made bread is needed, along with mashed potatoes.

And for calm happy, buttermilk scones with pistachios and cherries… . and a bit of dried unsweetened coconut mixed in. . .

There are lots of comfort foods that calm me down (including sweets), but it’s an unhealthy relationship. I eat when I’m stressed and I’m always stressed.

Miso (it’s a fermented soybean paste)
Wakame (seaweed)
Green onions
Tofu
Dashi (broth - substitute fish or vegetable stock broth)

It’s a very light but delicious soup

If i’m in a bad mood, sushi and a can of monster-jucied (my new favorite drink)
