Calvin had failed. It is his doctrine that is to blame, not the souls of his followers. Calvinist churches members in our city-center are now obvious of having nightly devotions especially what they call here in the Philippines “pagsasamba”. This is a communing with God, and is striving for perfection through a heartfelt nightly service around a bonfire in the open field.
The once-saved always saved teaching had become narrower and more vague now for them. Calvinists had learned that the developments of the soul (i.e perfection) is greater than this doctrine. The former negligence of them to discover this spiritual progress (which obviously is the result of the OSAS doctrine) has been now turned aside and the concern for spiritual renewal felt by most Evangelicals and charistmatic Catholics is in full throttle. The nature of the soul, which cannot be impeded by any man-made applications, is more powerful than any other. God made the heart to beat by itself, so there are doctrines that cannot control.
The histroy of Catholicism is full of them: mystics. Evangelical churches is full also of them, yet not knowing that they are already one due to their selfless devotions. Calvinists had now touched the level of myticism, the communing with God, the soul’s true joy and hope. Every religion’s members has souls very potential to be mystics. Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims, no matter what the doctrine of their established religon, still, the nature of the soul just as the smoke which rises upwards prevail. That’s why all pray, that is the nature of all.
