Hi,

I’ve been hearing demonic voices day and night for a while. But lately they are telling me that I made a bet with the devil and that I have to go to hell.

Can a bet with the devil be considered a sin and be forgiven? I usually argue that we have forgiveness for sins form Jesus Christ but they never listen to me.

Thanks,

David

Of course it may be forgiven.

Any sin can be removed through the Sacrament of Reconcilliation. Go to confession, the Priest; acting in the person of Christ will be able to remove from you your sins.

Given that God has been known to have a friendly flutter with the Devil over whether killing Job’s family and wrecking his life would destroy his faith, it would be a bit of a double standard if God couldn’t forgive a friendly wager with Satan.

Absolutely right!

And the tale of Job is most important for the commentary of Elihu rather than anything else; in case you are interested - I certainly feel it would save many skeptics (particularily problem of evil skeptics) the time in raising arguments which are succinctly destroyed in the book of Job; namely those of Eliphaz, Bildad, and Zophar (and Job’s wife).
