Leaving the Church for any non-Catholic church or community is grave matter. Done with full knowledge and deliberate consent, it is a mortal sin. A Roman Catholic can, however, attend the divine liturgy at an Eastern Catholic church that is in union with Rome, and in certain cases and with the proper ecclesial permission, may even join an *Eastern Catholic *rite of the Church.
