Would it be a valid marriage if a Catholic marries a divorced non Catholic in a Catholic Church by a Catholic Priest?

Dear M,

The Catholic Church recognizes the validity of non-Catholic marriages. Before a Catholic may marry a non-Catholic who is divorced, it must be determined that the person’s first marriage is not valid and the person is free to marry. In order to accomplish this, it is necessary that one talk to a priest and begin an investigation to see if an annulment is possible.
