Here is a situation!
A young couple is engaged with the intent of getting married in the church.
They are both in the military. The only way they can be almost positive to be stationed at the same base is to be legally married. If not, they may potentially not see each other for 6 years.
They are considering getting “legally married,” thereby get stationed at the same base. They, however, would not consider themselves married. When ready, they would pick a wedding date and get married in the church and that to them is being married! They want a longer engagement period than would be afforded if they were to rush the marriage vows.

They are asking for my advice and I am asking for yours! :)🙂
 
Hi,

Yes, they may get civilly married and remain celibate until they are validly married in the Church. Some countries do not recognize Church weddings; so Catholic couples must get civilly married and remain celibate until they are married in the Church. This happens all the time.
