Is it a sin for a married woman to have romantic and/or sexual fantasies about a fictional character, say from a book or movie (not the actor but the character), or about someone who’s just made up? Thank you for your help!

Ideally, a married woman’s fantasies should be about her husband. If she finds herself fantasizing about fictional characters, she should re-evaluate her reading and viewing entertainment to see if it is contributing to unhealthy or impure thoughts. Fleeting thoughts that are not willed and which the person seeks to banish are not sinful. Choosing to continue to think about unhealthy or impure thoughts (i.e., “entertaining” such thoughts) can be sinful. In any case, the woman should not tell her husband that she has been fantasizing about someone else, fictional or otherwise.
