Someone in my Whatsapp group asked whether those who are baptised still need to go for mystagogy classes. She thought it is only for those who are not baptised. I responded, “It is for those who are baptised”. Then she replied, “I think it is for all who used to be in it including you.” She knows that I am not baptised, yet she said it is ok for me to join. What do you think?

Hi

I became a Catholic at Easter vigil. We had a one week break after Easter and then RCIA classes started again.

The first week was a class just asking for our thoughts on Easter week and the actual vigil. Second week was about Catholic social teaching. Third week was a presentation by the Saint Vincent de Paul society. Next week is about lay ministry and the last week is a mass.

I am sure if someone who had not been with the RCIA program asked if they could come to the last few classes the Priest and leaders would say yes. However I am not sure how much they would get out of it.

Maybe other churches cover more topics in this section than the church I go to.

You should ask your parish RCIA team. They might have a preference one way or the other.

I agree that you might just ask your RCIA team about it.

I will say, I would find it a bit odd for a parish that puts candidates and catechumen in the same RCIA class to suddenly disinvite the (former) candidates after the Easter Vigil in order to cater solely to the (former) catechumen during a period of mystagogy. Normally, the group would stay together after Easter just as they were before Easter.

Mystagogy is a time after the Easter Vigil where the new members have a chance to learn a little more about the church community. Pretty much anyone can go but it’s really only relevant to those who have just come into the Church.
