Is it possible for a person to really be under a curse?

I won’t go into much detail. but in the last 8 months:
  • I lost my job and haven’t been able to find a new one (I have sought help from friends, recruitment agencies, and even my parish priest.) Things that worked previously, don’t seem to be working now.
  • My previous employer owes me quite a lot of money. All avenues I have tried to make him pay me my money have failed.
  • I have had to move back in with my parents because of finances, after several years of successfully being able to survive on my own.
  • I feel worthless that nothing is working and days just seem to pass endlessly past/
If I am under a curse, how can I make it stop and get out from under the curse?

Or you might just need to look at practical ways to solve these problems. For instance, you are owed money. You could look into taking legal action on that. I would say it is unlikely that there is an underlying spiritual cause for a chain of events that seem to flow from one event (loosing your job). Still, you could see being unemployed as an opportunity to develop your spiritual life, go to daily Mass, practice extra devotions. If there is a spiritual cause, it will help with that too. Couldn’t hurt to use the Prayer to St Michael the Archangel and get hold of some Holy Water just to be on the safe side.

👍
Additionally: what about going back to school or doing some volunteer work to rejuvenate the resume? There are grants and loans available for those displaced by the not-so-stellar job market. Is this something you could explore with a career center?

I don,t believe in curses. If you are not presently working why not use the opportunity to attend mass each morning? I believe our Lord sends us trials to bring us closer to him with prayers. I pray a lot, which should tell you of the many trials God sends me. I wish I could go to mass every day but go to work instead and can only go on Sunday. I pray for the trial God sent you to be resolved. This is no curse, just a bump in the road right now. Go to mass.

Curses are absolutely real. That’s the bad news.

The good news is what you’re experiencing sounds more like a series of trials. It’s no fun but at least it isn’t actual demonic torment and oppression, right?

Being unemployed or losing a job can certainly feel like a curse. Whether it is one or not is ultimately up to you.

It is nerve-wracking to lose employment. On the one hand, you want to work, and keep running up against roadblocks to find employment. That’s actually quite normal right now in this economy.

Don’t take it personal. You will have to get creative and think outside the box.

As much as you would like to volunteer, and attend daily Mass — all great suggestions by the way – I know that you feel that the first priority is landing employment. You would be correct, but don’t overburden yourself either. You still need to find the right balance.

I would also encourage you to work on your physical fitness, even if that means going for a long walk every day. Exercise will help ease the stress, and make you feel more confident when you are in an interview.

I would also recommend you spend some time every week at your local library. Focus on the job search there with the help of the librarian, and at the same time start looking at expanding your reading into areas that you always found interesting, but never had the time or energy to pursue.

Lastly, make a daily schedule. If you are not working, what can you do around the house to help your parents? Do they need their garage painted? How about mowing the lawn, or raking the leaves? The main key is to get busy, get active, and get a full agenda on your plate. When you do land an interview, you will feel much more confident if you are physically fit from daily exercise, and have been working on several projects.

It might look something like this:
  • Main focus is the job search. That might mean knocking on doors, sending out resumes, networking within your industry, searching for open positions online, etc. Put some firm commitments and goals in place as far as the job search goes - “I am going to hand deliver 10 resumes this week to employers where I would see myself working there.”
  • Daily Mass
  • Go to the library a couple hours 2-3 times per week. Ask the librarian for help with your job search and any tools they can provide to spruce up your resume.
  • Make a chore list to help around your parent’s house without them asking. Take it upon yourself to help them in any way you can.
  • Set a firm target deadline to land a new job and move out of your parent’s house. The sooner, the better.
  • Daily exercise. Walking, running, riding a bike - at least 1 hour per day, preferably in the morning.
  • Eat healthier. That means a good breakfast, a solid lunch, and a light dinner.
  • Volunteer at the local animal shelter or homeless shelter once a week.
  • Set a reading regimen to start reading books that will help expand your horizons.
  • Socialize, but keep it to a few close friends, and only then on a limited basis. Don’t go overboard with drinking and parties.
  • Apply at a temporary service just to get some money coming in the door. Even if you land an hourly job temporarily for a few weeks, it is better than no income at all.
Your primary focus needs to be on securing employment, even if that means taking a job you really don’t want, or taking a position that isn’t at your pay grade. Get your foot in the door, work your tail off, and be aggressive about impressing your new boss. In the meantime, get on an organized busy schedule and keep your mind, body, and soul active and engaged in life.

Not likely.
I won’t go into much detail. but in the last 8 months:
  • I lost my job and haven’t been able to find a new one (I have sought help from friends, recruitment agencies, and even my parish priest.) Things that worked previously, don’t seem to be working now. This has happened to many people - you may need new job search strategies. Is there anywhere you can get job counseling? sometimes the state employment agency has classes and tips and referrals for getting another job.
  • My previous employer owes me quite a lot of money. All avenues I have tried to make him pay me my money have failed. I agree with other posters here who said you may need a lawyer.
  • I have had to move back in with my parents because of finances, after several years of successfully being able to survive on my own. Again, you are not the only one who has had to do this. Just remind yourself that it’s temporary.
  • I feel worthless that nothing is working and days just seem to pass endlessly past/
I know it’s hard not to feel depressed when things aren’t going the way you would like but again, it will pass. Keep on praying and making the effort to get a job. In the meantime you could start your own business doing chores for people, walking dogs, cutting grass and many other odd jobs.
